Story

Who are we?

We are group of six postgraduate students studying MSc Finance and Banking at the University of Bath. As part of our program we are undertaking an action project in aid of Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC). We aim to raise £300 through a Rocket League tournament held Sunday August 2nd 2020 as well as raising awareness through out social media campaign.

Who are GWAAC and what do they do?

GWAA is a charity that provides emergency air and ground ambulance service for the most critically ill patients across Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Gloucestershire, and parts of Wiltshire (Around 2.1 million people!). Examples of common call outs for GWAAC are cardiac arrests, road traffic collisions, ill children, major trauma from falls etc. GWAAC can dispatch their doctors within 5 minutes of being called, bring the emergency room to the patients, stabilising and transferring them to a near specialised hospital.

In 2019, on average GWAAC carried out 5.5 critical care missions a day. During the growth of COVID-19, GWAAC redirected their efforts to help NHS safely transfer COVID patients due to a lower demand in their usual work. Being a charity, GWAAC’s operations rely on public donations to keep going. Every callout costs around £2000, that’s £4,000,000 a year worth of life saving service, hence every penny we raise will aid in keeping this amazing service going!
