Story

Thank you for taking time to read through our JustGiving page!

On March 30th 2019 the University of Plymouth Ladies Football Club (UPLFC) will be holding its first ever Alumni match and will be fundraising for the amazing charity Teenage Cancer Trust in memory of one of our UPLFC’s legendary alumni, Abigail Rockefeller (or better known to the team as Rocko) who sadly passed away on February 18th 2019.

Rocko joined UPLFC in 2016 as a loud and proud Welsh lass, who was one beastly player with an insane throw and naughty whip on her crosses! Rocko truly left her mark on all her teammates around her, making her a true UPLFC legend.

In May 2018 Rocko was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Ewing’s sarcoma affects the bones or soft tissue around bones. It is typically found in children and young people, mostly within the ages of 10 to 20. She received treatment and support throughout her whole battle at the Teenage Cancer Trust unit in the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

As a team UPLFC stick together ALWAYS, and it is for this reason that the club has decided to try and fund raise for this incredible charity by doing what Rocko loved to do…play football! Whilst paying tribute to an utterly outstanding girl who was nothing short of an inspiration, as she demonstrated a strength and determination unlike any other throughout her whole battle with cancer.

Teenage Cancer Trust are a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. They fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

We ask that you please join us in raising as much money for Teenage Cancer Trust, so that they can continue their dedicated work of providing expert care to young people within the UK and hopefully one day this awful disease can be eradicated so people never have to endure the brutality of it again.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure and any money donated will be sent directly to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Again, thank you for joining us as we strive to make an impact whilst also trying to ensure that Rocko’s legacy is as extraordinary as she was.
