Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For this year's Eating Disorder Awareness Week (25th February - 3rd March 2019) I am organising 'Uplift for Eating Disorders' on Saturday the 2nd March. This is a fundraising event in affiliation with University of Birmingham Powerlifting and Olympic Weightlifting society. Members from respective societies will choose to either complete as many one and a quarter squats at 50% of their 1 rep max, as many push ups or burpees within a two minute time limit. There will be a prize for the best male and female lifter from each category.
One and quarter squats refers to the estimation that over 1.25 million people in the UK have an eating disorder. The Powerlifting and Weightlifting community is thriving with women and men who have overcome and are learning to overcome their eating disorders with a strength sport. Powerlifting has been one of the biggest factors in my recovery from bulimia and binge eating disorder, so I wanted to arrange an event that pays homage to the power that is in strength training to help combat eating disorders.
