Yemen Appeal - Derby2Notts - Sponsored Bike Ride - Orphan Appeal · 19 September 2020

Rafah International provides humanitarian aid to the impoverished people of Yemen and the victims of conflict and natural disasters. It also supports teachers, students and educational institutes.

Story

Ustaad Burhaan Kandia, alongside, Derby teams will be bike riding from Derby2Notts to support 50 orphans for a whole year in Yemen.

Orphans in Yemen are among the most vulnerable in our world. Left to fend for themselves in a brutal war, many are starving and homeless.

The UN estimate that 130 children under the age of 5 die each day from hunger and disease.

In any society, orphans are often the most vulnerable and those who suffer the most hardship. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself was orphaned and he drew people’s attention to the plight of orphans. He once raised his index finger and middle finger and said: “I and the sponsor of an orphan will be like these two (fingers) together in Paradise.”

By choosing to sponsor an orphan, you can attain that closeness to the Prophet, ensure the wellbeing of a child in Yemen and give him or her the support needed to flourish in later life.

You will be provided with a photograph and an annual progress update on the welfare and education of the orphan you are sponsoring. The money you send will be spent on the following things:

Essential foodstuffs for the family

An annual medical examination for the orphan and any other medical expenses

  • Clothing
  • School bag with stationery
  • School fees and school transport fees
  • Prizes for academic success
  • A yearly outing with other orphans and their families
  • Pocket money

Cost: £250 per year, per child

£250 / $325 = Yearly

£21 / $28 = Monthly

Rafah International is firmly committed to a 100% donation policy.

Rafah International was established in 2016 to assist the work of Rafah Foundation, which provides humanitarian aid and supports education in Yemen. Rafah International is a registered charity in the UK (Charity no. 1168436).

The word “ra’fah” in Arabic means compassion. God describes Himself as “al-Ra’uf”, meaning the Most Compassionate and describes His beloved Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) using the same word. Compassion for humanity is what drives the work of Rafah.

Rafah Foundation has its base in Tarim in Yemen’s Hadramawt region. It was set up under the direction of the distinguished scholar, Habib Umar bin Hafiz, and started operating in 1997. Since then it has been striving to improve the lives of ordinary people by providing essential foodstuffs and medication, sponsorship of orphans and widows and the digging of wells. The Foundation also places great emphasis on education and supports teachers, students and educational institutes.

It facilitates the performance of religious duties such as the distribution of zakat, the sacrifice (Qurbani/Udhiyah) at Eid al-Adha and breaking people’s fast in Ramadan.

Since the beginning of conflict in Yemen in 2015, Rafah has been providing humanitarian aid to some of the worst hit areas such as Aden and Hudaydah as well as helping refugees who have fled from conflict areas to safety in Hadramawt.

Rafah takes its guidance from scholars who are experts in their fields and strives for excellence in all that it does. The Foundation is firmly committed to a 100% donation policy.
