Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year my mum had an accident and suffered a spinal cord injury, leaving her paralysed from the chest down and with limited use of her fingers/hands. She spent six months in hospital; five of those months at Pinderfields Spinal Rehabilitation Unit. With her amazing attitude she has come a long way since the accident, learning to adapt to a new way of living, thanks to all the hard working staff at the unit.
S.U.R.F (Spinal Unit Recreational Fund) are a local charity that arrange events for the patients, helping to break up the monotony of the long hospital stays. Ex patients are also invited along, to receive and also provide support. Unfortunately through Covid-19 it wasn't possible to have the events, but S.U.R.F still found ways to cheer the patients up, with initiatives such as gifts at Christmas and pizza take away nights!
They are also always there for peer support for all the patients who have suffered these life changing injuries, as well as their families.
We hope to be attending some of the future planned events now they are allowed to happen again! Spinal cord injuries are very rare and being able to socialise with others who have been through a similar ordeal is a massive support for everyone.
Please give as generously as you are able, this is such a great cause.
