Story
I have decided to dress like a Phoenix and glide like the wind (try to!) to raise money for the Phoenix Group for Deaf Children & Young Adults.
Phoenix is a charity close to my heart and works with deaf children, young people, and their families, based in Stevenage and supporting their members in Hertfordshire. For many families, the charity is a lifeline of support and opportunity to develop confidence, skills and meet other members and families with deaf children and young people.
Being born deaf to hearing parents and having worked with many other parents of deaf children and young people, I know of the barriers faced not being able to hear or have no hearing at all. Whilst I have experienced my own barriers and challenges, I have been fortunate to have had the fantastic support from my local community, teacher of the deaf, friends and family that my deafness hasn't held me back.
At the end of 2021 I took on the role of Chair for this charity and in the short space of time I have been involved I am so proud to be part of the organisation with the fantastic team (led by Julie) delivering a wide range of programmes and supporting the families in the area. I have a love/hate relationship towards running and whilst I'm looking forward to the challenge, I know I will need to work hard and keep going.
All donations will go to this very worthy cause making a difference and supporting the lives of many.
