The Vampirates' Quest for Booty

Victoria Smith is raising money for Refuge

The Vampirates' Quest for Booty · 1 May 2021

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

Ahoy, mateys! On Saturday 1st May at 8am, the vivacious vampirate, Viridian Vixen, and her trusty crew, Captain Bean 'Bananafish' Scuryshorts and Filching First Mate Fletcher will be setting sail on the Sea of Thieves, on a 24-hour quest, to obtain gold for a worthy cause - and we need your help!

Refuge supports individuals who have experienced violence and abuse in the forms of domestic violence, forced marriage, 'honour'-based violence, human trafficking, modern slavery and more. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and Britain's consequential lockdown, there has been a huge increase in demand for the charity's services. Our crew will be raising funds for this vital charity.

Our initial target is £500 for Refuge to put towards combating, researching and raising awareness of domestic violence, as well as providing help and support to those escaping cruelty.

Sea of Thieves is a video game created by legendary British software house Rare, in which players take on the role of a pirate and go on plundering high-seas adventures with friends online, battling hordes of skeletons and deadly sea creatures such as megalodons and krakens. Our crew thought a game in which players work together to fill their coffers with gold was a fitting choice for a stream in which we aim to earn as much "gold" as possible for charity!

We have set up a Facebook Event page, which you can find the link for below, and you can check us out on Twitch leading up to, and on, the day of the 24-hour charity stream. The stream will be a three-way simulcast on three Twitch channels to allow the broadcast to continue for the duration of the event for when our seafarers need to stop for the occasional grog or vittles!
