Thanks to Classic Collection Holidays, industry holiday association, AITO, and Jonathan at Discover Adventure, plus too much champagne at an overseas travel conference auction last year, I'm soon to be climbing Kili which, at 5,895m (19,336ft), is the highest mountain in Africa and the HIGHEST FREE-STANDING MOUNTAIN IN THE WORLD! Apparently everyone who reaches the summit writes their thoughts in a book which is stored in a wooden box at the top and it's great that I'll be able to write that we've raised enough money to give the children at The Bombolulu School of Promise a playground. THAT'S WHY I NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE as I've promised the 130 children, at this delightfully named school in Mombasa, enough money to fix their play area as they only had a couple of broken swings and a badly concreted enclosure in which to play. Once we've raised £2,000 for the playground, your money will go towards some much-needed fans at the school where classrooms often reach temperatures of 40 degrees!
So, on 26 September 2014, I'll begin my trek to the top of Kili. I've only been to 5,643m before (Kala Patthar, Everest Base Camp back in the mid-90's), so when I'm at the top of Kili at Uhuru Peak, I'll be more than 200m higher than I reached 20 years ago. I've been training hard and have clocked up more than 350 miles of hill walking and mountain trekking .... and I've made it really easy for you, because ALL YOU HAVE TO DO is press the DONATE button with your credit card in hand....
So, go on, press DONATE, and pop your details on the site with as much as you'd like to give. £1 per child at the school equals just £130 which is a great amount, but simply contribute whatever you want or can, OR send me a cheque and I'll forward the money to the trustees of the charity on your behalf. Oh! and do remember to gift aid your donation. Thanks for reading and thanks for helping the children of Bombolulu. THEY ARE THRILLED & SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
