Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Over the Christmas period I was toying with whether I should bother with a New Year’s Resolution. My usual resolutions are to 1) go on a diet, 2) to try to be tidier (Have you seen my desk???) and 3) to try and go to bed earlier than midnight at least once a week…

Every year I set these goals and every year they last for about 3 weeks (less for the diet unfortunately!). This year I decided to forget the usual resolutions and just set one….To try to raise at least £500 for Macmillan cancer care.

I have over the years lost many friends and work colleagues to cancer, but last year my father-in-law passed away, after a very long battle with cancer. I won’t go into any more details other than to say the care, help, advice, commitment and even love, by the Macmillan nurses that helped us out over this time, was truly amazing.

The effect they had on all the family was tremendous, to the extent that this year my 17 year old niece (Hannah) is cycling to France from Nottingham with Macmillan, to help raise them much needed funds. My youngest son Richard (18) has also decided to shave his head for Macmillan fundraising. This may not sound much, but Richard’s hair looks like a blond version of Sideshow Bob, so seeing him with no hair, will be quite something.

I did toy with the idea of being sponsored to have my hair cut short (for those of you that don’t know me too well, my hair reaches my waistband and has been this long (and longer) since I was a nipper), but I have wimped out of that idea, as it means I’d actually have to take time to style it and not rely on a trusty pencil to keep my hair tied up in a bun!! Plus I can’t remember the last time I even used a hair dryer, maybe back in the early 80’s…

So, I have set up a little ‘charity card shop’ next to my desk at work (Capital One). The greetings cards are a mix of homemade ones and shop bought cards. The handmade cards are one of a kind design.

Thanks for reading and for your continued support
