Story
Thank you for visiting our page. We are fundraising for Variety Golf. Unfortunately our centenary event, like many others, had to be cancelled due to Covid-19, but the appeal described here goes on - the charity still needs support.
On the 16th June 2020 it was exactly 100 years since the Old Whitgiftian Golf Society began its activities after WWI. A book, entitled It’s a Long Game, relates the story of the Society, and can be obtained by writing to the Secretary (honsec@oldwhitsgolf.com).
Founded by a small group of golfing OWs, the Society is now the School’s third largest alumni sports section and, whilst thriving as a social society, has achieved consistently good results in major alumni competitions such as the Halford Hewitt. Membership is open to past and present Whitgiftians, their parents, and past and present members of staff.
At the same time we want to raise money for a great cause. Variety Golf is the oldest golfing charity in the UK, raising funds for Sunshine Coaches and providing golf lessons for disabled and disadvantaged children. Over the past fifty years Variety Golf has put over 1,000 coaches on the road and last year raised funds for a further 21 at an average cost of over £35,000 per coach.
All proceeds from sales of the centenary book will go to Variety Golf. Any donation you can make will be very gratefully received and will increase the amount we are able to send this wonderful charity.
