FIRE WALK · 19 November 2022

To help us to look after the vulnerable people in our local communities, we need donations to enable us to buy essential food and toiletry items which we can give the people suffering financial hardship at this time.

Story

I am taking part in a fire walk event at the Ystradgynlais Volunteer Centre to help raise funds and food for the Ystradgynlais Food Bank. This winter is going to be hard for a lot of people, with the increase in energy prices. I want to be able to help those living locally to me as best as I can.

If you do not want to donate cash, you can donate food, either by dropping this off to me at my house or directly to the Ystradgynlais Food Bank (opposite Tesco).

Your help and support is very much appreciated.

Marjorie (name has been changed to protect identity) contacted our Foodbank after seeing a poster in her local shop. She was worried about her cats as she was nearly out of food and was struggling to walk to the local shop to buy more. Our volunteer who took the call asked Marjorie how she was for food and was alarmed to hear that she had been surviving on soup alone! We very quickly put together a parcel of food for Marjorie and our volunteer purchased some cat food out of her own money to include in the parcel. For people like Marjorie who live alone, our contact is vital, not just for food but for human contact. Plus of course - making sure that her beloved cats who are her only companions are fed and well!
