Verity's running The London Marathon 2024

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
Hey,
I’m Verity I’m 23 and I’ll be 24 when I run the London marathon 2024! As you maybe aware… I’m no runner, but I’m super excited to say that running the London marathon is an achievement like no other.
The reason I’m running the London marathon is for the charity JDRF a charity working around the clock to create a world without type one diabetes as many may know I was diagnosed with type one diabetes in the height of a global pandemic in 2020 where I spent some time on ITU, only after fighting for my life 6 months before when I was in septic shock, my bodies been through many DKAs and well it’s nearly been my time over and over again but here we go it’s time to show the world that T1Ds can do everything and anything! For my best friends, NAT AND JOSH thanks for being the most incredible people I’ve ever met.
Type one diabetes is both an invisible and very much visible disability, although according to many “it’s only diabetes, control your diet, don’t eat sugar” type one isn’t like that, the injections, the DKAs, the stress, blood sugar levels and the balancing life and walking the very fine line of both keeping yourself alive and healthy whilst always on the verge “too much insulin, not enough, too many keytones, no keytones” there’s so many things involved that T1Ds you are doing great…. This isn’t just for me it’s for each and everyone of you too!!!
This is also in memory of my auntie, who passed away when I was 11 my biggest supporter the women who’d meet me at the finish line with a Tequlia and the woman who taught me I could conquer the world. Rachel my dear friend, you’d absolutely wet yourself at the thought of me running a marathon when I couldn’t even place in Davison sports day… and nanny marian, the woman who watched me learn and go with sheer determination and independence, stubbornness and desire to change the world. I’ll use everything you taught me to be the best I can be both now and on race day… see you on the other side 🤍
