Story

I know I said I was done with challenges this year but I was lying to myself, fundraising for brain tumour charities like this give me purpose and meaning in my life alongside my family since 2022.

I have Glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is one of the top cancer killers not just as a brain tumour but across all cancers. It is the most aggressive and most common type of brain cancer accounting for 48% of all primary aggressive malignant brain tumours. Average survival time 12-18months that’s only 25% that survive past the 1st year with only 5% survive more than 5years and only 1% live upto 10yr an after diagnosis.

1 in 3 people will know somebody who is living with and affected by a brain tumour. Thats 12000+ individuals (33 a DAY) diagnosed with a primary brain tumour a year. It is indiscriminate and can affect anyone at any age however is more likely to affect children and young adults under the age of 40 consequently it is this age bracket that are more likely to pass away as a result of this deadly disease that’s around 5300 a year :( Brain tumour charities like the ones I raise money for receive a very small percentage (1%) of cancer research funding this highlights the difference in investment to brain tumours compared to all others since records began in 2002.

Common symptoms to look out for:-

•Headaches

•Seizures (fits)

•Persistently feeling sick (nausea), being sick (vomiting) and drowsiness

•Mental or behavioural changes, such as memory problems or changes in personality

•Progressive weakness or paralysis on one side of the body

•Vision or speech problems

Doesn’t mean everyone gets the same symptoms as they can develop over time, or vary depending on where the tumour is growing. SO GO GET CHECKED OUT!!!!!!!
