Story
Ed and Jerome Condry are among 27 cyclists who leave Canterbury on 10th August 2007 to cycle to Rome . Sarah is coming in the support team. They will be following the Via Francigena (the Frankish Way), which is an ancient pilgrimage route recorded by Sigeric in 990AD when he travelled to and from Rome on his appointment as Archbishop of Canterbury. The ride is a journey of 1200 miles and includes a passage over the 2500mGrand StBernardPass , where it is not uncommon to have snow even in the middle of August. The Via Francigena from Canterbury to Rome is growing in popularity. You can find out more about it at http://www.viafrancigena.com/.
The team are now engaged in some serious training – most of the riders have never undertaken anything like this before in their lives. Amongst the riders are five local school students. The group will arrive in Rome on Sunday 26th August. Each rider is paying all their own expenses but they will also be raising money for the Save Canterbury Cathedral Appeal.
Jerome and I originall set £3000 as our target. To our amzement we are now approaching £40,000. Who knows? Is £50000 possible? If you would like to support our efforts by making a donation on this website your generosity would be much appreciated.
You do not have to put your name against your donation: as you can see some have preferred to remain anonymous. If you would prefer to contribute more conventioanlly by all means contact us direct: at home, or via Cathedral House.
Donating through this site is nevertheless simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Save Canterbury Cathedral will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
