****** update 2021*********
Last year had other ideas for allowing us to complete our challenge but it didn't stop us from reaching our target! So THANK YOU!
Now it is time for us to fulfil our side of the bargain and we are excited to say we are transferring our places over to the Great North Swim 2021. (Read on for specifics)
Recently we have received diagnosis of vascular dementia for another treasured member of our family. Difficult to say the least but this has driven me (especially within current difficulties) to push forward and do something to focus me through the winter.
So I (VICKI) plan to swim every day in January , for Alzheimers society.
Many of my friends have done this for the passed few years and some days I've really been astounded by how they pull through. I hope I manage it.
This is something I want to do for the women in my life who I love endlessly. If you would like to add to our pot , please do but we are so happy to have already reached our original target that words/ company on swims is just as appreciated.
Watch this space for my daily swim updates and for our big event in June!

In January 2020 my incredible Nana passed away to Alzhiemers. The last few years had an huge impact on our entire family , helpless to watch my Nana change so much.
My mum (Liz) and I are grateful to all that helped and supported our family and my Nana. Leading us to do something together in her memory, to raise funds for future research and challenge us both!
Swimming is incredible and has helped me with so many hurdles that it only felt apt to enter The Great North Swim.
I am really proud to say that my mum (Liz) jumped at the chance and has also entered! She might ask me to delete this but 60 this year and signing herself straight up for this, I cant wait to watch her succeed!
Liz will conquer her FIRST wild swim event and take part in completing the 1/2 mile distance, whilst I will swim just before her and complete the 1 mile. I am excited to train with my mum as she loves the water as much as I do and I can see us really working hard to make sure we both get this done!
As a side note I had been mulling over how much I love to swim and thought I should challenge myself a little more...…...
So In March
I am going to run a marathon (maybe 2) over a month, not in one go, 26.2 miles. My close friends know my constant up and down relationship with running, its the only sport I just cant get consistent with, I have barely run in the last six months so this is a real challenge for me to complete in March. If anyone wants to join me physically rather than donating then I'd love the motivation. I am aiming for 12 miles a week so I can possible hit the 2 marathon mark!
It would be awesome if you could donate a small amount to spur us on, mostly to help us see that we are doing this with good cause and to take a positive from loosing someone so incredible. I don't ever want to lose my mum and I cant imagine what she is going through having just lost hers!!!
Love you mum!!!!
We will " walk tall" and "Just keep swimming" together!!
Alzheimers Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
