Over the last 6 months I have had the privilege of meeting some incredible people.  People who have left everything they know behind to seek refuge elsewhere because their home was no longer safe for them or for their families. They didn't leave just to find a "nicer place to live" but left to escape terrifying political regimes, violence, war and persecution.  I have met a firefighter, a teacher, a paramedic, a university lecturer, a call centre manager, a government worker, a factory manager to name a few, who all just want to make sure they can live their lives in safety.  I am privileged to work for Upbeat Communities who play a vital part in welcoming, befriending and building community with people who are often traumatised by their experiences and deserve a new start.
