My 60th Year Challenge · 6 August 2020

Simon Says aims is to support children & young people who have a significant person in their life who has died or is dying. Whilst we can’t take away the pain of bereavement, with appropriate support & information, we can help families understand what has happened & gradually gain future hope.

Story

I would like to “introduce” myself. I am Vicki Dunlop, a member of South Winchester Golf Club’s Ladies Section and I turned 60 years young at the beginning of April during Lockdown. I will be doing a Tandem Skydive on Thursday 6th August and all the money that I raise will be going to our SWGC 2020 Captain’s Charity “Simon Says”. “Simon Says” is a Hampshire charity that was set up to support children and young people up to the age of 18 who have a significant person in their life who has died or is dying.

This Challenge is totally out of my remit, in fact it scares me witless! However, I have ALWAYS promised myself to “jump” out of my box and do a challenge in my 60th Year. This one is close to my heart as my Dad, a British Army Colonel attached to the Parachute Regiment, designed and put into service the reserve parachute. When he first started parachute jumping it was with one parachute and if it failed then you didn’t have much chance of surviving! In fact, his last entry in his “jump logbook” following hundreds of parachute jumps reads “broke leg”!

Sadly, my Dad will not see me do this. Born in 1914 and left this earth peacefully 13 years ago, he will be with me in spirit together with a photograph of him in his gear and his red beret will be in my pocket too. I would like to make him proud!

This Tandem Skydive is even more important this year as many smaller charities have really suffered following the Covid-19 outbreak and many do not have enough money to continue their hugely worthwhile work.

If you would be kind enough to contribute even the smallest amount to make this worthwhile, I would be eternally grateful.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
