Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. This January I’m taking on Dryathlon® and raising money for Cancer Research UK. I’ll be ditching the drink for one month to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
my reason for choosing such a great cause is both in memory of others and to say thank you to everyone who helped research and develop the treatment we have now and to develop it further in the future!
Our family first dealt with cancer when my step father in law was diagnosed with breast cancer he underwent a mastectomy and underwent radiotherapy! he went into remission and hopefully is now free from the disease.
In 2005 i received the news that no one wants to hear! I had breast cancer! I thought I was going to die and didn't know how we would find the strength to cope. I was very lucky I had great family and friends to help me deal with this. It was a hard time as our son was only 6! How do you explain to a 6 year old about cancer! The breast cancer nurses were fabulous in helping with this.
I underwent a lumpectomy and unfortunately I had cells in my lymph nodes so needed to undergo 2courses of chemotherapy! I think I was fairly lucky as although I felt awful on treatment days and a couple of days afterwards I could carry on fairly normally!
I lost my hair which was difficult to deal with but when we went to chose my wig we had such a laugh trying on all the different wigs and eventually chose my Sharon OSbourne wig and also my closest friends clubbed in and bought me a bandana with plaits on which was my fun wig!
Once chemo was over I had to undergo radiotherapy which I can say affected me more I felt sick, tired and very low during my daily treatment at clatterBridge. I have to say the volunteers in Lancashire ambulance service were fantastic, they made the travelling bearable! Even now my energy level has not returned to what it was. I am thankful that I can say I'm in remission. I still have to have regular check ups and every time I still worry that it's back but thankfully to date all clear!
Since my diagnosis and treatment we have been affected by cancer again. My son friend who was only 10 at the time lost his fight ( and boy what a fight he put up) . I lost my dearest closet friend to cancer and not a day goes by when I don't think about her -when on holiday as we had some fantastic holidays together, parties, drinking sessions and family times and her favourite time of year Christmas every time I hear fairy tale of new York it brings a tear to my eye and a smile! Gone but never forgotten.
Please help me raise as much money to help develop further treatment and hopefully find a cure for this dreadful disease!
Please dig deep and donate now.
