RAJ Photo Exhibition at OFS OXFORD · 27 September 2013

The Old Fire Station is an arts centre in Oxford. We share our building with the charity Crisis, and we include people facing homelessness and disadvantage in everything we do. We believe art is for everyone, and we want to make Oxford a more equitable place to be through art and community.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

I am a Romanian photographer based in the UK and I am showing in a new gallery in Oxford. The exhibition will focus on the Polish Allotment Gardens and I am thrilled to have been selected by the Old Fire Station.

I really need your help to organize an exhibition since it is my first solo exhibition in the UK and a good start would mean the world to me. Your help would allow me to cover a small portion of the amount needed to frame the prints in a professional way and also set up a Private View you are all invited to.

The exhibition will showcase images from a project close to my heart, one I have been working on for the last few years, on Polish allotments. Successive visits to Northern Poland reinforced the initial connection I felt with these soon-to-be-lost oases and led to the realisation of them being more than just gardens. They define a large period of history and represent a characteristic aspect of urban development over the last century.

Behind an apparent typology of such dwellings lies the threat of a developing economy and the need to fight for the survival of these patches of picturesque respite. My approach is objective yet lyrical at times and although focused on Polish Allotment Gardens, hints to a wider necessity of protecting tradition and heritage in the urban culture.

More info and a variety of images from this project can be seen on  http://victordia.com/gallery_polish_allotments.html

The Old Fire Station works closely with The Crisis Skylight to enable homeless people to access training and work and develop skills and confidence through a series of workshops. I will also deliver photography workshops in partnership with these charitable organisations so your help will go a long way.

Your support is highly appreciated. You will receive a thank you postcard with a small printand I will also give away a large print, just like the ones included in the exhibition. So please get in touch and leave me your address in case you want a keepsake of your good deed!
