Story

A small team from Smiths News IT are taking on the National Three Peaks challenge as the main department Community Week  fundraising event  to raise money for CLIC Sargent.

We will be climbing the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in less than 24 hours on the weekend of 22 & 23 June.

We will be supported throughout the weekend by our support crew, Terri Baylis and Cathy Flynn

Our challenge starts at the base of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles at 5PM on Saturday 22 June.
A 10.5 mile route taking in the summit at 4409ft sees us back at the car park 5 hours later, this is followed by a 6 hour drive to the Lake District for an early morning ascent of Scafell Pike starting at 4am Sunday 23
June via a 9.5 mile route taking in the summit at 3209ft.
Arrival back at the car park by 8am for a 5 hour drive to the Snowdonia National Park for our final peak starting at 1pm on a 7 mile route taking in the summit of Snowdon at 3560ft.
Our adventure reaches it’s climax in a race back to the car park for 5pm on the Sunday to make the 24 hour target.

The main driver for us taking on this team challenge is to raise much needed funds for CLIC Sargeant.

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children.  Every day 10 children and their families are told the shocking news they have cancer.  Treatment normally starts immediately, is often given many miles away from home and can last for up to three years.   This is a frightening experience and the emotional, practical and financial implications of treatment are intensely challenging for the whole family.   CLIC Sargent is the only organisation to offer them all round care and support,  they provide clinical, practical and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life.

This page is linked to the Joshua Flynn Team page:

Joshua is a 4 year old boy, a close family friend of a colleague, and is currently undergoing treatment for a very rare and aggressive form of cancer.

The Joshua Flynn fund is hoping to raise a total of £11,880 which would pay for a family room at one of CLIC Sargent’s “Home from Home’s” for a year.

CLIC Sargent has eight Homes from Home in the UK and are located within a 10 minute walk of the principle treatment centres. Staying in a Home from Home allows the family to be together while their child is undergoing cancer treatment.  Something small like a family sitting down and enjoying a family meal together can be a very precious moment.

Every donation,  however small,  will go a long way towards helping other families who find themselves in this situation.

Thank you,

Andrew Caple, Marcus Cotes, Andy Taylor, Brett Hanley, Alan Stone, Victoria Enebeli, Brin Jardine
