Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Why am I doing this?

During the final weeks of the 2019 academic year I forgot to set aside time for myself. I felt like I was working more hours each day than I had been all year and reached a point of extreme anxiety. Eventually I broke down in a flood of tears to a colleague. There's alot of change happening in the next academic year and I found myself trying hard to prepare for it. Resultingly, I've needed to take a break and focus on me for a bit; that includes getting myself outside where I feel the happiest. In order to help me to do that I figured if I committed myself to a challenge I would have to prepare for it. Hence, I've signed up to walk 100km over two days from London to Brighton.

Over the course of the next academic year I'll be undertaking training walks to prepare myself for this challenge and may invite a few of my teacher friends to join me.

Why am I fundraising for Ed Support?

In April 2016, I had to use the helpline service provided by Ed Support. If I hadn't, I honestly believe I would have left teaching. Thanks to that phone call, I found the confidence to take time off work, to get myself some medical help and eventually to apply for a job at another school.

Since then I've been able to fall in love with teaching. Not only have I stayed in the profession, I've been able to help others survive and thrive too. Whilst the experience was a challenge both mentally and physically, it's developed my understanding of mental health, my own and that of others. Additionally, I've become braver, more confident and determined. Along with family and friends, I have Ed Support to thank for that.

I want to help Ed Support reach more teachers and school staff in need, your donation can help them to do just that. Thank you x
