Working as a Consultant at the Christie I see first hand the amazing services above and beyond standard NHS care that are provided by charitable donations. The latest ambitious charity project is the opening of a new Christie satellite centre in Macclesfield. With a fund raising target of £21million it’s no mean feat! 

As both doctor and patient, I know only too well how exhausting cancer treatment can be. For some patients it can mean an over 30 mile round trip to the Christie main site. Bringing services closer to patient’s homes will undoubtedly lessen the burden of cancer treatment and make it accessible to vulnerable patients who otherwise wouldn’t consider travelling.

Since completing treatment for breast cancer two years ago I’ve relied on running for head space and to keep me fit. The challenges have been getting bigger from 10km to half marathon so now it seems fitting the big one should be in support of this huge project.

Thanks to storms Ciara, Dennis and all those without names the training has been gruelling (and soggy) but with a group of amazing women from “These mums do” running club we’re ticking off the miles!
