Story
This is it… the marathon that never was! I trained for Manchester marathon in April 2020 but with just two weeks to go, it was cancelled. A bitter blow after training hard in all weathers!
At that time we were raising money for the latest huge Christie venture - bringing treatment closer to home for patients in Macclesfield. Despite the challenges of developing the project through a global pandemic the centre opened its doors in December 2021. The difference for patients is phenomenal - taking travelling long distances out of gruelling cancer treatment has made things a bit more manageable for so many patients in Macc.
The marathon was rescheduled for October 2021 but I was a bit pre-occupied at that time with a 10 day old baby! Instead I set my sights on the 2023 marathon and here we are… three weeks to go and it feels like it might actually happen! (Won’t actually believe it until I’m at the start line though!)
Training has been tough but made all the more bearable by the inspirational women of “these Mum’s do” run club and our fearless leader Becca who is also going to be pounding those pavements on the 16th! (Look out for the orange army!)
Giving to the Christie charity enables us to provide services above and beyond those the NHS can provide. From experience it’s these things that make the journey a little more bearable for those having treatment. If you are able to give a little in these tough times we would really appreciate it.
Wish me luck and if you’re on the route throw a jelly baby or two my way!
