On the 14th of August myself and my friend Jack will be travelling to Kenya to offer our support and help to a fantastic charity called Challenge Africa.
About Challenge Africa.....
HIV/AIDS is decimating the population and already fragile economy of this area. The national prevalence is 6.7% yet in the two villages supported by this charity, Wagusu and Abimbo, 33% of the population have HIV/AIDS.
CA is committed to improving the quality of life for people in Wagusu and Abimbo by working alongside locals to develop and implement sustainable projects that will benefit the disadvantaged people of this area. The projects target orphans and vulnerable children, HIV positive individuals and families, vulnerable girls and women, and the community as a whole. The charity is currently trying to reduce infection rates of HIV/AIDS through improving education, and creating training opportunities for the girls and women to provide them with secure incomes. CA also aims to advocate sustainable practices such as farming and clean water provision. A chicken farm was recently set up to provide the orphans and community with much needed protein in their diets.
Where will your donations go.....
Jack and I will be working with CA on all their current projects during our time out there and your donations will enable us to help as much as possible by providing us with the means to obtain necessary supplies. We will be teaching English to the children, helping on home care visits to HIV/AIDS sufferers, helping on a nearby farm to provide sustainable food for the community. £100 will allow us to set up a water tank to collect rainwater. Your money will also go to support the provision of condoms, safe-sex education and HIV/AIDS education so we can reduce the infection rates in these villages. Donations will also go towards providing sanitary towels for the women who otherwise are forced to engage in sexual relations to obtain these, to helping foster families care for the orphans left behind from the devastation of HIV/AIDS, and improving the conditions of the school buildings.....for just a small example of the fantastic projects set up by the CA team.
We will be involved in fundraising events when we return from Kenya to continue supporting this fantastic charity, however if we could manage to raise some money before we left it will enable us to help CA even more by giving us the means to obtain more supplies whilst we are out there.
This charity is completely dependant upon fundraising and donations, they receive absolutely no support from the government and their permanent members of staff in the UK work completely for free on top of their existing jobs. Every penny we receive from you goes straight to the projects in these villages.
Thank you for taking your time to read this, and any donations you can make will go such a long way. Your support is very much appreciated. THANK YOU!!
