Every week, over 400 people in Wales are diagnosed with cancer. Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, hundreds of patients face critical delays to their diagnosis and treatment that could cost them their life.Around the world, countries have been left reeling from Covid-19 in many ways, and research is no exception. At the height of the pandemic in the UK, an estimated 70% of clinical trials and medical research studies were put on hold. Although it is encouraging to see research re-starting across the UK and further afield, the challenge isnt over. In the months and years to come, the impact of the current crisis on cancer research is likely to be felt by some more than others.
This month will Mark 10 years since we lost my grandfather to Cancer. Having heard from a close friend how the pandemic has impacted cancer services, I have decided to take part in the Stxp campaign for Dry January.
