In supporting Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity you have the opportunity to truly support a ward or department close to your heart as we have over 100 separate funds for you to choose from.

Story

The event I am running is called the “Thames Ring” which is
a 250 mile, non stop race, starting and ending in Streatley on Thames,
following the Thames Ring. Runners follow the River Thames to Brentford and then join the Grand Union Canal to Napton Junction.  After that, runners join the Oxford Canal to Oxford and then pick up the Thames path again to the finish. The tag line for the event is “250 miles – 100 hours – Two feet”.

Runners must navigate using maps and can only receive support
at checkpoints, which are every 25 miles or so.
No outside support is allowed outside of the checkpoints and no pacers
are allowed.  The race director describes it as an “extremely tough run testing runners’ endurance to the limit, along with long hours with little sleep and long dark nights”.

My 10 year old son asked if I would raise money for the
Royal Derby Children’s Hospital, whilst we were sat together in the MRI waiting area last month.  It was his appointment and as we sat waiting, my son noticed that despite the MRI department being in the Children’s hospital, there was not a single children’s book or toy in the area.  Over the last 5 years my son has spent time, both as an inpatient and as an outpatient, having had a number of operations and he asked if I would raise money so that the hospital can buy a new football table game for the outpatients waiting area, because the “old one squeaks when you turn the handles and the paint has rubbed off the players” and
to buy books and toys for the MRI waiting room and to buy more iPad for the children’s wards.  How could I say no?

My son’s fundraising target is £2,500.00 – he thinks that’s only right for running 250 miles!  That is a huge target and one that I have not set on my JustGiving page.   My target is ambitious enough, so I am extremely grateful for your support. Turns out, that those football tables cost around £800.00, so I will need to reach my son’s target in order to buy the hospital all the things on his list 😉

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  I hope you will support my cause.
