Story
We want to raise £2021 in our 21km run on the 21.03.!
We are raising money in order to help bring change in 2021. As part of the Tearfund community we believe that tackling poverty calls us to a whole-life response, incorporating prayer, giving, action, advocacy and lifestyle.
What's POVERTY?
10 % of the global population live on less than $1.90 a day. Looking beyond the economic poverty, poverty is more complex and also relates to health, education and access to resources.
Poverty is the result of a social and structural legacy of broken relationships with God, a distorted understanding of self, unjust relationships between people, and exploitative relationships with the environment. These fractures are made worse by the Covid-19-pandemic, conflicts and natural disasters, many of which also have roots in the broken relationships between God, humanity and wider creation. Your decisions and choices today can so easily condone, even shore up these systems.
YOUR HELP: Help us to raise awareness and fundraise money which go directly to the people and places where money is most needed. Tearfund’s approach to overcoming poverty is holistic and goes beyond meeting basic needs to enabling and empowering people to flourish. Tearfund is certified against the Core Humanitarian Standard and is a signatory to the Red Cross Code of Conduct. For every pound donated: 77p goes to their amazing projects, 14p goes to fundraising, and 9p goes to running and support costs, ensuring effective use of the money you donate. GIVING: Giving allows you to make use of the privileged culture you're born in. It allows you and express your gratitude and it gives you the chance to partner with God in his redemptive plans for the world. By giving to Tearfund, you are able to support and participate in our work to see people lifted out of poverty, and be a part of restoring broken relationships with others by reducing inequality and tackling injustice.
£21 could empower 16 families in Malawi to free themselves from hunger through training in new farming skills.
