Giving up chocolate and sweets for a month · 1 January 2016

We believe the death penalty is disproportionately imposed on the most vulnerable in society, violating their right to due process and equal justice before the law. Our aims are to provide better access to justice and to raise awareness of potential abuses of defendants' rights.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Those who know me personally will also know that I am an absolute chocolate and sweets fanatic. I never leave the house without both for when I get peckish during the day.

I will be giving up both sweets and chocolate for the entirety of January 2016 in order to raise money for Amicus.

Amicus is a charity that provides legal representation for the most vulnerable people on death row in the US.

"People who are well represented at trial do not get the death penalty."- US Supreme Court Judge Ruth Bader Binsburg

"Even after considering other variables… the odds of a death sentence were 97% higher for those whose victim was white than for those whose victim was black."

- Dr. Glenn Pierce and Prof. Michael Radelet, Louisiana Law Review, 2011
