Story
Five years ago, I embarked on a life-changing experience that I now call 'my delight of the year'; from watching disadvantage children flourish to surviving in sweltering temperatures above 45°C -with the support of the ICP, I fell in love with the developing lands and people of India.
The 'India Child Program' (ICP) is a charity that focuses on lifting children out of poverty through educational sponsorships in high quality private boarding & day-schools.
Most children in the villages of India are dependent on Government provision for their education- this includes, each village receiving one teacher with a single class-room facility, where around 100 children (grades 1-5) are being taught simultaneously.
Unsurprisingly, this kind of education promulgates illiteracy, where after 5 years, children are still unable to read or write. After the first five years, to continue their education, the children have to leave their villages and commute many miles each day to a bigger city. This is where a lot of the children drop out and stop their studies; girls get married while boys look after family animals or work on a field for a meagre wage.
This is where the ICP comes in- by breaking the cycle of poverty through aiding sponsors and volunteers such as myself to support these children in such a crucial time of their lives.
While my voluntary work in India is still ongoing, there is much work needed to make a substantial impact on these children's lives.
This is where I need your help.
With your contributions and generosity, ICP can promote awareness to its aim in creating a better future for children living in a deprived environments.
