Vinnie’s Story
17th June 2017 a few days after his due date, our little Vinnie entered the world. Things quickly changed when at only 7 days old, he started to experience seizures and was admitted to hospital. After numerous tests including an MRI, Ultrasounds, blood tests etc, the only issue doctors seemed to diagnose was that Vinnie had low calcium. However, there were further results which our family awaited after Vinnie was discharged from hospital.
When Vinnie was only 6 weeks old, Doctors confirmed that Vinnie does in fact have a rare condition called Di George Syndrome. A condition which we and many other people had never heard of before. Di George syndrome typically affects a child’s immune system meaning that Vinnie has a low immune system which therefore means he is constantly at high risk of catching illness and infection. Having already had meningitis at 3 months old our Vinnie is a strong little boy.
So it brings us to why we have chosen The Max Appeal as our chosen charity. Max Appeal helps families like ourselves in supporting children with Di George and has also provided us with in depth information and guidance about Di George Syndrome.
So now this is our challenge. First of all to make as much money as possible for this amazing charity and secondly to raise awareness. As you may know none of us are ‘runners’! And have certainly never ran 26.2 miles! So all of your love and support will really help and encourage us to ‘keep going’ when it gets a little tough.
