NHS SCOTLAND FUNDRAISING HUB 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Created by Steven Patrick Sim - the Tartan Artisan.

-

Steve hopes these JustGiving fundraising pages can become a CENTRAL HUB FOR DONATING FUNDS to support Scotland's 14 regional NHS Boards ...supporting local facilities, NHS staff and volunteers caring for critically ill Covid-19 patients during - and beyond - the coronavirus crisis.

-

If you want to help you can make a choice - CHOOSE THE HEALTH SERVICE you wish to support. Steve has created pages for each of the 14 regional NHS Boards ...including the Scottish Ambulance Service.

-

YOU CAN HELP SAVE LIVES ...with 100% of your donations going to the charity of your choice supporting NHS Scotland!  - In light of the coronavirus epidemic JustGiving has waivered it's fee so that every penny you give is donated.

-

Please note: Your donation will primarily be utilised where the need is greater during the coronavirus epidemic, however, when the crisis passes any remaining funds raised may be used in other ways to support NHS Scotland, in the Lothian region.

But now, a wee bit about my tartan, if you want to learn more...

-

OK, so I created the VIROHAZARD tartan over a few weeks in February and March 2020 after I couldn't stop myself watching the news!

Every day I would tune in to watch increasingly alarming news reports of the emerging coronavirus pandemic! ...and as I realised it was getting closer to home, and would impact my own life and my family, my mum and dad ...I felt myself getting more and more stressed!

-

Then one day when I was working, without realising it I started to think about the biological hazard symbol... which I think was in my subconscious after watching the news. We've all seen it! It had popped up a number of times that day on the telly, and the yellow and black had stuck in my head! ...and that symbol. This one here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biological_hazard

-

I then started doodling, and fiddling with the colours, the yellow and black, and then red... and before I knew it the hazard warning chevrons appeared, and then the virus ...and I had created a tartan. And I called it Virohazard.

Then I created a symbol ...inspired by the coronavirus.

-

I think it was therapy for me, as that's usually how I start creating many of my tartans ...through my emotions ...and my feelings, either good or bad.

-

Then one day I was shopping for my parents - in the middle of the panic buying - trying to keep calm... watching the fear in peoples faces. I was thinking to myself - worrying - I need to remember to stop touching my face... and then, I must wash my hands, and then I better not get too close to that guy in front of me at the checkout ...and all the other things I was trying to remember. I was anxious!!

-

Then it hit me... the tartan I created - Virohazard - could it be a reminder to people, maybe a public health warning, but something different? To remind folks about all these things we really needed to do, to keep safe, and to be aware of these new dangers? ...to be a reminder for ME!? That's when I realised the tartan could become more than I first imagined.

-

So I posted the tartan on to my facebook page and the response went crazy ...it really struck home with people! And then the story was picked up by the Evening Telegraph and they contacted me to run it, and it was published in the newspaper on Tartan Day 6th April.

THE HEADING WENT LIKE THIS...

"Arbroath man creates new tartan army to battle coronavirus"

...and then, "AN ANGUS TARTAN MAKER HAS CREATED A UNIQUE 'BE AWARE' TARTAN IN A BID TO FIGHT CORONAVIRUS".

And from there the seed was planted in my mind, maybe I DO need to raise an army! Some way to encourage folks to support our Scottish NHS. Our local frontlines! But I wasn't sure how I could do that... and the thought rattled about in my head for a week or so.

-

Then Capt Tom started his fundraiser...

-

Captain Tom Moore, a 99-year old war veteran, raises a staggering £30 million for UK NHS Charities Together! ...before his 100th birthday! Awesome! ...a national hero! ...and a true inspiration!

You can read his story here -
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/30/capt-tom-moore-thanks-people-for-support-on-his-100th-birthday

-

...and that's when it struck me... maybe I could be inspired, and set up a fundraising page to raise much needed funds for NHS ...and keep the funds here on the home ground, in Scotland. Because that's where my heart is ...and my fellow citizens, my people. If we could raise a fraction of what Tom has, that would be fantastic!

Please help me make that happen! ...I need your help!

-

But, after looking online I just couldn't find a single fund that would support all the individual Scottish NHS regional health boards! ...if I've missed that let me know!

-

So I decided to try and create a HUB, so that I could encourage fundraising from one single location... and JustGiving as given me that platform!

-

So I've been inspired... to RAISE AN ARMY!
...and I need your help!

Scotland's NHS CONTINUES TO NEED YOUR HELP!

-

Coronavirus will have massive impact on us all for a number of years to come... and I fear it will come in a number of waves! Lets all pull together and raise as much as we can to support our Scottish NHS!

By doing so we are supporting our NHS Heroes on the battle field ...on the home frontline. We are showing them we care!!
