Bargie takes on Virtual Ironman (140.6 miles)

Virtual Ironman 140.6 miles · 2 October 2022
The physical and mental demands that cancer puts upon an individual is simply unfathomable for someone who has never had to experience it’s debilitating capabilities. And unfortunately, I believe the majority of us have seen this first hand. I cannot even begin to imagine what it must do to the mind and body, whilst fighting such a horrible disease.
And so, I have decided to attempt a full Ironman on the 2nd of October to push both my body and mind as far as I can. Considered one of the toughest endurance events, the Ironman is compiled of a 2.4 mile (3.8km) swim followed by a 112 mile (180km) Bike, finished with a marathon (26.2 miles or 42km).
Since completing virtual marathons in 2020 and 2021 for the Big C, the charity still remains a massive part of my life and so I signed up for the virtual marathon for a 3rd year in a row but this time I had to make it harder! The Big C have not only helped me and my family members but thousands of families across Norfolk & Waveney, and for that I am forever grateful. Therefore, I will continue to support the charity through the only way I know how: fitness!
