We research cures for childhood cancers to ensure that more children survive!

Story

I first became aware of Kidscan in 2013 through my involvement with an online Stockport County fans' group. They are a children's cancer charity based in Salford, not far from where I grew up.

At the time, childhood cancer was something affecting my wife's family, so I decided, along with a good friend of mine, to organise a sponsored walk from Edgeley Park in Stockport to an away match in Macclesfield.

The 'Hatters Hike 2013' was such a success that we replicated it with a walk to Hyde FC two years later, followed by a sponsored 1,000 mile road trip around the country visiting all of the football grounds in County's league the year after that.

Then, in 2018, I completed a challenge by myself, running ten 10k races throughout the year, again raising funds for Kidscan.

I've said many times that I hate running with a passion, but it turns out I'm not totally rubbish at it (despite one of those 10k events putting me in hospital!) so, having taken a bit of a break during the pandemic, I've been looking for a new challenge for 2022.

Once I spotted the 'Valhalla Virtual 350k' on Facebook, it seemed like the perfect challenge to attempt. Ok, I might have been swayed by the very cool running shirt and medal I'll get if I complete all 350k in the six months allowed, but you've got to have something to make it all
worthwhile, right?

350k over six months equates to around 8.5 miles each week on average, which is roughly what I run already, but doesn't allow for any time off due to holidays or injury, so I'll be cutting it fine covering the distance by the deadline of 11th July (six months after I entered the
challenge').

I'll be logging every single run on Strava as proof, and will update this page along the way.

I am again raising money for Kidscan, as they a comparatively small
charity, and desperately need our support, now more than ever. I would urge everyone to take a look at their website, and then dig deep.

25% of children who are diagnosed with cancer won't see their 30th birthday. We can help to change that.

Thanks for your support.
