Story

Please support my effort to help in the setup of our new Youth Hub. All money raised will go towards kitting out this project.

Hi, I’m Les Clarke and this year I’ll be walking the Virtual London Marathon 2021 to raise funds for The Salvation Army’s new youth hub in Horbury.

After the craziness of the pandemic this past year and being among the many who have found inactivity has made us eat more and move less, it was time to do something positive for myself and start getting fit.
I’m getting older (I’m now 53), so I decided I should give myself a big challenge to push me outside of my comfort zone as well as raise a lot of funds for our youth project. And, given that I really didn’t want to waste a perfectly good plane trip by leaping out halfway through it, I thought a marathon walk would suit me far better than a sponsored parachute jump!

I am already training hard with my wife, managing to fit our very long walks around work so I’m ready for my mammoth trek. On the day of the marathon I start out from Horbury youth hub and walk to Doncaster Salvation Army taking in our two centres in Royston and in Goldthorpe. Please do come along and cheer me on if you can or donate here!

Thank you for your support!

It is what we continue to do today and it's what we will go on doing whenever and wherever there is injustice and pain in the world. We help people affected by disasters or financial troubles. We help people who are experiencing homelessness or escaping violence We help people trapped in addiction or battling mental illness We help anyone feeling hopeless. We are a community- a movement of people fighting injustice. Our donors and supporters- people like you- are as much a part of The Salvation Army as those working in our recovery centres or regional communities. Together we offer unconditional love and support, without discrimination. The Salvation Army is committed to delivering innovative and progressive services that empower people beyond their circumstances.
