Story

Thank you to so much to everyone who supported us!

With your help we produced enough visors to give extra protection to 1981 people!

Sadly our project had to come to an end, as did so many others, with a central announcement that all "home made" visors would have to be submitted for safety assessments and quality control, at a cost of £1000s. Not possible.

The grateful recipients of our visors all made their individual assessments of risk and benefit, and used them in accordance with their infection control procedures - they are still using them today.

We supplied:

  • 8 GP practices
  • 10 Hospitals / hospital departments, including working with the military to supply Guildford testing centre
  • 14 Care homes
  • 5 Care agencies
  • 2 Search and rescue organisations
  • 4 Specialist Children's Charities / Schools
  • 1 Hospice
  • 1 Pharmacy
  • 3 Funeral Directors

We have just over £2000 of your donations left over. This is going to be shared equally between Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and CRUSE Bereavement Care.

We are so grateful to everyone in our community who made this project happen. Special thanks to:

  • 1st Rudgwick Scouts
  • Horsham Scouts District Commissioner Sal Dartnell

  • Guildford High School
  • Cranleigh School

And to the A-Team - Andy, Anne, Chris, Di, Dom, George, Greg, Ian, James, Jon, Kieran, Nik, Oly, Paula, Si - for  your time, expertise, compassion and endless energy. You are truly wonderful people.

1st Rudgwick Scout leaders are busy making and assembling face visors to give to frontline staff in the pandemic. In healthcare, these are used to boost standard personal protection. They are worn over the top of goggles and surgical masks, along with aprons and gloves. The visors help prevent sprays of droplets landing on faces.

We are asking for donations to cover the costs of materials. If we raise more money than is needed, we will donate this to a health-related charity.

The story: We were asked by a local GP for help – the practice had started to 3D print their own visors, but the process was slow and the demand high – more helping hands were needed.  We put the call out through the local Scout network to see if anyone had a 3D printer at home.

Within 24 hours we had a team of amazing local leaders willing to print, cut, assemble, deliver, coordinate logistics. By day 7 we had delivered 47 visors to local healthcare staff. In 4 weeks we have made and distributed over 800! See more here:

Demand is high and we are keeping going.

If there are organisations you know of who would like visors please put them in touch with:  covidvisor@horshamscouts.com
