Camino de Santiago · 24 September 2019

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit ourJustGiving page.

On Tuesday 24th September myself and Den set out for 6 days to walk the last 117km of the Camino de Santiago - completing our pilgrimage On 29th. To get to this point and be ready to take on this personal challenge has been quite a journey for us and while doing this we would like to ask for your help to raise some much-needed funds for Aspire.

18 months ago I faced complicated and risky thoracic spine surgery, as a large calcified prolapsed disc had slowly impacted on my spinal cord, meaning that I was losing sensation and control in my legs. As someone who had prided themselves of keeping fit and active this came hard. The surgery was very scary and carried a risk of paralysis and other complications, but by the time I had the operation I was barely able to walk a mile. I was lucky in that the surgery was successful, but we'd both like to help others who suffer with spinal cord injury and need help to regain independent lives.
