New York Marathon 2015 · 1 November 2015 ·
Towards the end of last year, after a long fight, our father passed away from stomach cancer. For those who knew him, they will remember him as not only the life and soul of any party but also a keen athlete who loved a good workout as much as a good night out. In fact, in 1985 as one of a number of marathons that he completed in his lifetime (which could also be said to include raising three children) he ran the New York marathon. From the photos and anecdotes it sounds as though the carnival atmosphere was ideal for the celebrating if not always for the pre-run preparation. This year, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his achievement and also to raise money for Marie Curie we are going to run the New York marathon. We have decided to run for Marie Curie because of the outstanding care and consideration that the Marie Curie hospice in Penarth provided. In what was a very difficult time they looked after him with kindness and understanding and made sure that his final few weeks were as comfortable as they could be. As with every marathon, it’s going to be hard, but channelling the spirit of our dad will help us through the rough patches. If you have any photos of our dad either during a run or post-run please let us know as it would be lovely to fill the gallery with more photos. Thank you for every and all donations.
