Story
In 1953, my dad Roy Jenkin cycled 2286 miles from Exeter through France, Germany and Switzerland with his school friend Gordon Newbery. They slept in potting sheds, railway marshalling yards, and fields of every description and they spent 10/- a week. Roy kept a very detailed diary with maps, black and white photographs, and even recorded details such as their bike wheels made 6,400,000 revolutions!
In 2003, fifty years on, I retraced his route with my friend Simon Rawles and had more than a mere cycling holiday. My dad died of cancer (multiple myloma) when I was quite young, so it made sense for me to reconnect with him in a practical and positive way whilst having my own new adventure.
