Sponsored Ronathon
I would walk 500 mi......nutes!

If you blinked and read ‘run in a thong’ then you are, thankfully, mistaken!

As well as WB 2021, 3 members of Ronnie Lamb’s fan club (Me, Juliet and triplet Jackie) hope to raise further funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK by embarking on a Ronathon for Dad.

I WOULD walk 500 miles for him but thankfully Covid and fitness levels and childcare issues won’t currently allow for this! Instead, we will be walking 500 minutes, the equivalent of 6 games of rugby for the great man.

We will start the clock from OURFC Iffley Road where Dad’s illustrious rugby career took shape. He gained three Blues in 1962, 1963 and captained the side to Varsity victory in 1964.

We will join the Thames Path and follow the river upstream. We will stop at Port Meadow for a dip in the river. Cold water is now recognised to protect the brain from degenerative diseases. Then continue along the river and see where the time takes us.

There is evidence to suggest that head injuries can make brains more vulnerable to dementia symptoms. The link between rugby and early onset dementia is now recognised.

It is a cruel condition that is erasing Dad’s memory and stripping him of his independence. Who knows if Dad’s rugby is to blame but sad to think that the sport that once made him a legend may be responsible.

With your help and generosity, we hope to make a small difference to a big problem.

Please also sign the petition below urging the government to invest in dementia research.
