Did you know that 1 in 8 young people will be diagnosed with a mental health problem ... that works out to 3 in every classroom!
Pretty scary statistics.
I'm sure we've all been touched in some way by mental health issues, either with family or friends, and you probably know how stretched NHS resources are in this particular field - especially when it comes to help for young people.
The idea for doing a Sky Dive first came up last summer when Wali and I (Tina) were talking about exciting things he'd really like to do. Somehow, at the beginning of May, I seem to have volunteered myself to join him and then thrill - seeking Cecilia decided she would overcome her lifelong fear of heights and help raise money with us. We mulled over which Charity to raise money for and it was Wali's idea to find one involved with helping young people with mental health issues.
Young Minds is an amazing organisation which helps to fill the gap in mental health services for young people - and they offer tremendous support to parents, families and carers too. Please have a look at their website to get more of an idea of their incredible work, advocating for young people and offering much needed training for professionals working with children and young people.
So ... the afternoon of 4th August at Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent is the day.
Wali is incredibly excited, I think Cecilia is wondering what she has let herself in for, and I'm going to have to be brave ... but not nearly as brave as the youngsters Young Minds help, most of whom have experienced traumas and are facing up to challenges in their young lives for which they need all the help and support they can get.
All your donations will be much appreciated and well used by Young Minds. It's a cause which is very close to our hearts - so thank you for your generosity.
