The Harrogate Homeless Project is Harrogate district's only direct access hostel, providing emergency accommodation and support for homeless people. Only 13% of our running costs are met through statutory funding, so we constantly need to raise money in order to continue.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Ian and I both feel very strongly about homelessness and discuss it often. During a time of crisis, as we are currently experiencing, it is sadly an issue that can easily be forgotten.

Understandably, in these economically uncertain times with worries about loved ones health and family finances, people are needing to look after themselves and their own first.

Yet, we must remember the 'forgotten' people in society. The ones, who even in good times, not everyone cares about and remembers. The ones, who rely on compassion and understanding to help them live their best lives.

I wanted to volunteer at HHP, but due to the COVID-19 crisis the project is unable to recruit volunteers for the foreseeable future.

Ian and I have been helping the project indirectly, by providing regular food shopping during the lockdown and are now hoping you will help us raise money by supporting our combined step effort of 191,362 steps to raise much needed funds for HHP.

The walks will take place on the 24th and 25th June during the day. Both walks are 20 mile round-walks. We'll do the Harrogate round-walk on day 1 and the Knaresborough round-walk on day two. Each walk will take us around 7 hours actual walking time.

We will document the walk on a walking app to see how many actual steps we do, and we will take photographs and short videos of interesting things we encounter on the way and share these with you.
