We challenge conventional thinking to help solve the grand issues of our time

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I know that I have asked for your donations on numerous occasions and you have been so very generous but I hope you will support me yet again :)

On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May I will be walking from London to Brighton - a total of 100kms! I will be joined on the Sunday by Becky Lownds who will be walking 50km with me.

We are walking in aid of the The Harry Lownds Memorial Fund . Harry Lownds was the son of two very good friends of mine - Matt and Becky Lownds. In February 2019, Harry died suddenly from cardiac arrest at the age of 21.

Harry was in his final year of his BSc in Genetics at the University of Sussex and it was his dream to continue his studies there by undertaking the Master of Science degree in Genetic Manipulation and Molecular Cell Biology.

The aim of the The Harry Lownds Memorial Fund is to offer scholarship support to a graduate student at the University of Sussex whose personal circumstances might otherwise prevent them undertaking the studies that had been Harry's dream. An increased understanding of genetics is so important  for so many reasons - from the use of DNA in court cases to the discovery of new therapies and even cures for genetic diseases so I do hope you can support this cause.
Although your donation will go to the University of Sussex general fund initially, it will then be ring-fenced for the above scholarship.

Thank you reading my page and for any donation that you are able to make.

Sussex has challenged convention since our foundation in 1961. From modernist architecture on the edge of a rural national park, to our progressive academics and inspiring students, to the very tone of our conversations, our expressions of radicalism and critical thinking. We dare to be different.
