Story
Very sadly we lost my uncle Piers on 19th April 2021. Piers was a quiet, intelligent, gentle human being with a fantastic sense of humour. He loved history, reading, photography, music, walking (for miles and miles), and spending times with his family.
It wasn’t until Piers was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2017 that I realised just how debilitating the condition could be; in more ways than the physical. Towards the end of Piers’ rapid decline in health, he not only lost his mobility but his voice, his strength, some cognitive abilities and his independence.
Piers inspired more people than he realised and touched the hearts of many. He will always be missed but there are many memories to cherish.
Even before Piers passed away I had wanted to somehow raise awareness of this disease, and I feel that doing something Piers loved (walking) for charity is a great way to do that.
Parkinson’s UK’s research has led to discoveries that have helped medics understand the condition, and they are still searching for more information and one day a CURE.
