Walk for uniform · 17 May 2022

Every day, thousands of menstruators go without period products to safely & comfortably manage their periods. Freedom4Girls address the issues affecting period poverty, by donations of free products & an education programme that reduces stigmas, shame & empowers communities.

Story

In our Religious Education work this half term our topic is ‘How and Why Do We Care About Others’?  As part of our learning we are thinking about what we can do to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

In light of our previous ‘Out of Africa’ topic, we would like to do some fundraising to raise money for the Oasis Academy Primary in Mtomondoni, in the Kilifi district of coastal Kenya. In this area there are many children who don’t attend the school simply because their parents can't afford the school uniform.   The cost of a uniform is currently just over £7.

One of the parents in Bay Class runs the Freedom4Girls charity which has very close connections with this school and so our children have been lucky enough to see some videos of what it is like there.  They have been so interested in this and are very keen to show care and kindness to these children who are less fortunate than them.

We are doing a sponsored walk so that the children in Year 1 can really empathise with the lives of these children as many of them have to walk a long distance to go to school or even to collect water.  We are hoping to raise lots of money to buy uniforms so that this is no longer a barrier to these children receiving an education. Thank you for helping us.
