Story
In June 2020 our founder of 3rd World Hope, Shaun, had set himself the personal challenge to walk every mountain in the Snowdonia National park.
A total of 123 mountains within the 823 square miles of the National park. He had estimated it would take him 2 weeks to complete, with no vehicle support. Shaun had spent 4 years planning this challenge by scouting out possible routes.
His aim was to highlight the difficulties in Malawi that a large proportion of the population faced every day when sourcing clean, safe drinking water.
Sadly, in February 2020 Shaun lost his life in a minibus accident in Malawi whilst delivering aid for 3rd World Hope and therefore never completed his challenge.
We have absolutely no doubt that Shaun would have completed this challenge successfully and would like to believe that this challenge would ‘only’ have been achieved by Shaun and his incredible ability to overcome adversity.
As a way to honour Shaun’s memory his family and friends have decided to come together and complete a section of it for him. Routes have been created that will cover many of the tallest Snowdonia peaks with wild camping and physical endurance. Over the course of the weekend we will cover 20 of the 123 summits with one night wild camping and the other in a local campsite.
Since Shaun’s passing, his family work hard to continue his legacy by keeping his beloved charity going.
Unfortunately, due to the heavy rains in Malawi the latrines (toilets) at one of our orphan care centres have collapsed meaning the children have no where hygienic or private to go. This work is urgent, meaning the funds raised from this challenge will go directly to pay for a new building with new latrines.
We thank all of those who continue to help and support us in keeping 3rd World Hope running. We couldn’t do it without you so from the bottom of our hearts, Thankyou.
