We provide Specialist Palliative Care to people with life limiting illnesses

Story

It will soon be a year since my Dad lost his battle with cancer and its time I held up my end of a sort of deal we had.

Towards the end of Dads time, his illness saw him needing the support of Woodlands Hospice who provide specialist palliative care for the people of North Liverpool and Kirkby.

The team were simply amazing. They treated my Dad and the family with the utmost dignity, care and compassion - he loved the place! So much so, we talked one afternoon about how we could go about raising some funds and giving something back to the place and people that were making life that bit easier for us all!

Its time for me to honor my word, my Dad and the special people at Woodlands by attempting to raise a little cash and awareness for the Hospice. Woodlands relies heavily on volunteers, fundraising and public support to be able to provide an incredibly important service. I have spoken with Aintree Hospital and Woodlands and am privileged to have their support fundraising.

Some will know, every weekend Dad would drive us from Preston back to Liverpool to see family, friends, football etc. He ended up doing the journey daily once he moved back to Liverpool. I've done the drive countless times myself, but never on foot.

Therein lies the challenge. The idea is to set off from my Dads house in Preston and walk to his house in Liverpool, somewhat replicating that journey. (Minus the M6)

Google maps tells me it should take 7-8 hours, I will update the page nearer the time with a safe route, potential pit stops and details of what will be a much needed drink at the finish line.

If anyone would like to join me, has any ideas for the day/route or any fundraising tips please do get in touch. (I've never done this before!!)

Most importantly, if you can, please make a donation of any amount. This is about raising money, support and awareness of a special service and those who deliver it.

Please check out their webpage below.

Thank you.
