We help families find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them

Story

Bread & Butterworth Cricket fundraising for CLIC Sargent                    On Sunday 8th September we'll be walking 26 miles through West Somerset to Minehead to catch a steam train home. If you can, please cheer us on by giving a few quid to support some fantastic young people with cancer. Any of us dropping a catch or committing other cricketing misdemeanors this season will be paying extortionate fines to add to you contribution ;-)

Why are we raising money for CLIC Sargent?
During last cricket season we suddenly found several of our players had close family members with cancer including sons, daughters and better halves. Dave’s son Will spent the first half of 2018 having chemotherapy for Burkitt Lymphoma in Bristol Children’s Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. The side effects and complications were tough going, but throughout this time Will and his family were supported by CLIC Sargent. When the doctor says cancer, CLIC Sargent are there. They are a fabulous charity that supports young people with cancer all over the country. Happily, Will returned to school & has just passed all of his GCSEs

What's the plan?
We have played a lot of cricket in the villages alongside the West Somerset Railway. This is our natural habitat, cricket grounds in stunning countryside with splendid pubs! So the hard core crazies are walking 26 miles of footpaths and lanes alongside the West Somerset Railway from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead quick enough (hopefully) to get the last train back home!?! Shorter stretches may be chosen by some with a ride home on a steam train ;-)

More about CLIC Sargent
CLIC Sargent is a charity that helps children and young people with cancer and supports their families. CLIC (Cancer and Leukemia in Childhood) was founded in the south west in 1976 and joined forces with Sargent Cancer Care for Children in 2005 to become CLIC Sargent. It provides specialist nursing and day to day support in hospitals and at home, free places to stay near hospitals, financial support and they are there to help families if a child dies. As well as dealing with the cancer, families face extra costs of around £600 per month and parents may have to give up work as specialist treatment all too often takes place a long way from home. CLIC Sargent campaign to make the lives of children with cancer and their families a little easier.

How can you help?
Please sponsor us so we can help fight for young lives against cancer! Help us to towards our target for CLIC Sargent, actually, help us to smash it and help as many children as we can. Thank you!
