Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My daughter Ellie was born in June 2002. She was a happy, healthy little girl who developed completely normally, taking her first steps and starting to babble her first words right on target. Life was good, but by the time Ellie had reached two years of age, she started to have seizures. Next, she lost the use of her hands - she could no longer pick up her toys, feed herself or reach out to be picked up. I soon realised there was a serious problem with my beloved little girl. Nine months of hospital appointments and tests, which I hoped and prayed would point out a problem that was easily fixed, resulted in the devastating news that my little girl had Rett Syndrome. Shortly after this diagnosis Ellie stopped walking and talking altogether. To be told that there was no cure for this condition broke mine and my family's hearts.

However, a few years on, while still trying to come to terms with this life changing news, my family were made aware that Rett Syndrome had been reversed in a mouse model. No longer was this condition thought to be incurable. Rett Syndrome could well be the world's first curable brain disorder. Raising money towards crucial research is now all that stands between bringing this cure to our little girl and others like her. Please donate and make this dream a reality.

On 11th May 2013 I will be walking 60km across the South Downs with a group of other parents affected by Rett Syndrome. Together we hope to raise funds to speed treatment towards Rett Syndrome and ultimately finding the cure that will see Ellie walking along side me once more.
