Connect is a national charity for people living with aphasia (communication disability) which is often caused by stroke. Aphasia can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 1 in every 200 people in the UK lives with aphasia and each person experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all, some people have just a few words. It affects reading, writing and numbers. Aphasia can lead to lack of confidence, depression, social exclusion – and people can lose their connection with the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Our vision is a simple one, we want a world where people with aphasia can re-connect with life again. Find out more about how we do that at www.ukconnect.org

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you know I'm a Speech and Language Therapist. I work with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders. A large proportion of my patients are people who have suffered a stroke or head injury and as a result have aphasia. This means they have difficulty getting messages in and / or out. Imagine not being able to say what you're thinking or not being able to understand what someone is saying to you.

Speech and Language Therapy is an essential part of a person's rehabiliation. However, there are some things that we just can't achieve in therapy sessions. This is where Connect comes in. Connect provide a range of services to help people with aphasia 're-connect' with life again.

I'm here to ask for donations however big or small to help support this fantastic charity. However, if you don't have any spare ££'s or $$'s to donate please take the time to check out the Connect website http://www.ukconnect.org/  and learn a little bit about aphasia and the work Connect does to support people with this communication disability.

A note on donating: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you for your support!
