Story

Between 2016 and 2019 I was able to visit Calais 5 times to deliver supplies and give some support to the amazing volunteers at the Refugee Community Kitchen.  This new year Covid and Brexit have made it impossible to travel to Calais and yet the need is greater than ever. In this church season of Epiphany we remember the story of the wise men who followed a star to take gifts to a child about to become a refugee. The story goes that they travelled home by a different route to avoid the despot Herod and the Holy Family fled to seek sanctuary in Egypt.

So, this year, like the wise men, I must travel a different route and 2020 years later refugees still rely upon the kindness of strangers because despots will not give them sanctuary.

It breaks my heart that I cannot take your gifts of food and euros to Calais this year so instead I plan to use my daily exercise to walk the distance from Chaldon to Calais (130 miles).

If you feel able to sponsor me in my walking to Calais project the Refugee Community Kitchen will be able to use every pound to feed the hungry.  Last year I took approximately £500 of food to the kitchen on Calais  - can you help me meet that target for 2020 when so many are forgotten in these desperate times, a hot meal for a traumatised asylum  seeker under a hedgerow in the north of France is worth more than all the frankincense and gold and myrrh and is all we can offer until wisdom and love prevails.

ABOUT Refugee Community Kitchen
After maintaining a number of their UK Outreach services throughout the pandemic, they are ready to rebuild in Northern France and to resume full service throughout the UK. A small COVID-19 response team, including the co-founders, are re-opening the kitchen, assessing the need in the region and slowly, safely and ethically rebuilding our operations accordingly.
They need your support as we rebuild!
Please donate and share, so that they can rebuild our stores of essentials such as rice, spices, gloves, Vegware, beans, oil, fresh veg, fuel and much more!
£10 = 12 litres of cooking oil
£20 = 75 tins of tomatoes
£50 = 55kg Basmati rice
£100 = 85kg dried beans
RCK is 100% dependent on donations, they really need your support in this crucial time. Please help us get back on their feet so that we can continue our mission of serving nutritious food without judgement.
